Over 100 Years with the Hallgrens
Agriculture, a horse station, and rental stables were also part of the inn's operations. In 1919, Per Wilhelm's daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Elias Eriksson, took over the business in Gråstugan. The inn was run by Christina’s brother Axel, who had just returned from America.
In 1929, Axel handed over the business to his brother Knut and his wife Svea. For almost 40 years, Gästis was associated with this hardworking couple.
In 1959, they sold the cows, and by 1967, the remaining operations were also discontinued, marking the end of the Hallgren family’s ownership of Gästis.

The traditional inn takes a break

Modern times with a touch of history
From December 2001, Ingalis and Halvard took over Gästis, and the focus shifted to a hostel and self-catering. They ran Gästis for 16 years, welcoming many returning and satisfied guests during both the summer and winter seasons.
On November 1, 2016, the Wahlgren family (Helen, Marcus, and Ludwig) took over Gästis. This family, originally from Stockholm, had spent many winters at their mountain house in Björnrike, falling in love with Vemdalen and long harboring a dream to run Gästis.
For 6 years, the family operated Gästis as a hostel with self-catering, during which they carried out extensive renovations and refreshed the beautiful buildings.
In May 2022, new owners took over Gästis.
Gästis kommer att drivas vidare som ett Gästgiveri med sikte på att förvandla en del av Gästis till en BnB.
